GAIA was pleased to be invited to participate in the TERRAVISION – Workshop and Clustering Event, a European gathering bringing together stakeholders, technology providers, research initiatives, and policy-focused actors working to improve the sustainability and safety of mining operations.

The event created a valuable space for exchange around one of the most urgent challenges in the sector today: how to move from fragmented monitoring approaches to integrated, predictive, and interoperable systems that can support safer operations and stronger environmental protection.
During the event, CyBELE presented the GAIA-TSF project, providing an opportunity to share our work with a broader European community actively shaping the future of mining monitoring and risk management. We also presented the current development status of the GAIA-TSF prototype, which integrates Satellite Earth Observation and Artificial Intelligence to support the monitoring of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs)—a critical element of mining infrastructure where proactive, risk-based monitoring can deliver significant safety and environmental benefits.
TERRAVISION and GAIA-TSF share a common goal: advancing a new generation of tools that combine remote sensing and machine learning to support safer and more sustainable mining in Europe. Through exchanges like this workshop, both initiatives contribute to strengthening a European R&D ecosystem by connecting research organisations, technology providers, industry stakeholders, and public authorities. This collaboration helps accelerate innovation, improve data interoperability, and promote the uptake of AI-enabled Earth Observation solutions in real operational settings—building shared momentum toward more resilient mining practices across Europe.
